The ETC beam among the finalists of the 1st Galician Innovative Materials Competition
The Ecotimbercell lightened timber beam (ETC beam), developed in the LIFE EcoTimberCell project, among the two finalists in the research Category.
The Axencia Galega de Innovación is holding the final event of the first Galician Innovative Materials Competition on Wednesday 3rd November, coinciding with World Materials Day, where the finalists will be announced.
Among the 80 applications submitted, two finalists were shortlisted for each of the categories of the competition: Crafts, Business, Research and Business & Research. The ETC beam has been selected, together with a thermally and electrically conductive coating, designed by the Galician Automotive Technology Centre, in the Research category.
EcoTimberCell beams are ecological cellular structural systems made of wood and wood derivatives that contribute to climate change mitigation. The carbon footprint of this building product is negative, which is a clear advantage over other common energy-intensive materials such as concrete and metal.
The design and configuration of the EcoTimberCell range integrates environmental advantages such as the use of minimal wood, i.e. minimising the use of wood in construction systems, reduction of artificial binders by using a wood fibre board in which the fibres are directly bonded with the lignin itself and by reducing the amount of adhesive compared to other traditional wood materials and others.
The event, which will take place at the CIS Tecnoloxía e Deseño, at the headquarters of the Materioteca de Galicia (Ferrol), can be followed in streaming. To do so, it is necessary to register at the following link: https://www.cistecnoloxiaedeseno.gal/intranet/campan/inscribir/71
