LIFE EcoTimberCell at the Biocultura Fair
The University of Santiago de Compostela presented the EcoTimberCell project at the Biocultura fair in A Coruña on 2 March.

Maria Portela, researcher of PEMADE participated with a presentation on responsible construction with wood, included in the Bioconstruction Day in which collaborate, among other entities, the Xunta de Galicia, through the Centro Integrado de Formación Profesional Someso. During his speech, he emphasised the environmental and social benefits of building with certified sustainable wood, minimising the carbon footprint in a high-impact sector.

He highlighted the role of the LIFE EcoTimberCell project, with the development of structural products using minimal wood, made from certified local timber. This type of innovative construction allows not only to minimise the carbon footprint of construction but also to store carbon in the long term. It also helps to promote sustainable forest management, giving value to the Galician forest by obtaining quality wood, under environmental criteria.
Biocultura is one of the most relevant European fairs on ecological products and responsible consumption. Held between 1 and 3 March, it hosted more than 150 exhibitors, who were visited by nearly 14,000 people.
